CEN64

Yes, another Nintendo 64 emulator. This one, however, aims for perfect emulation by emulating the hardware inside of the Nintendo 64 itself, down to the register-transfer level (RTL). At the same time, I’ve tried to keep things as optimized as possible in hopes that CEN64 will someday run ROMs at full speed, even on modest systems.

MAME

MAME originally stood for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator.

MAME’s purpose is to preserve decades of software history. As electronic technology continues to rush forward, MAME prevents this important “vintage” software from being lost and forgotten. This is achieved by documenting the hardware and how it functions. The source code to MAME serves as this documentation. The fact that the software is usable serves primarily to validate the accuracy of the documentation (how else can you prove that you have recreated the hardware faithfully?). Over time, MAME absorbed the sister-project MESS (Multi Emulator Super System), so MAME now documents a wide variety of (mostly vintage) computers, video game consoles and calculators, in addition to the arcade video games that were its initial focus.

Mupen64Plus

Mupen64Plus is a cross-platform plugin-based N64 emulator which is capable of accurately playing many games. Included are four MIPS R4300 CPU emulators, with dynamic recompilers for 32-bit x86 and 64-bit amd64 systems, and necessary plugins for audio, graphical rendering (RDP), signal co-processor (RSP), and input. There is 1 included OpenGL video plugin, called RiceVideo. There are 3 other excellent video plugins being maintained by wahrhaft, called Arachnoid, Glide64, and Z64.

Project64

Project64 is a Nintendo 64 emulator written in the programming language C for the operating system Windows. This software uses a plug-in system allowing third-party groups to use their own plug-ins to implement specific components. Project64 can play Nintendo 64 games on a computer reading ROM images, either dumped from the read-only memory of a Nintendo 64 ROM cartridge or created directly on the computer as homebrew. Project64 is considered one of the top performing emulators used today. The program is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2, and is free and open source software.
